Flip-flop is not the only type of sandal. Other types dressier and more formal than simple flip-flops. A basic thong sandal is held on the foot by a strip that fits between the first and second toes and is connected to a strap usually passing over the top or around the sides of the foot. Some thong sandals have a strap that forms a loop around the first toe. However, many different additions and variations of straps are possible. Flip flops are sandals that people tend to wear on informal occasions. The feel of these sandals is most enjoyed relaxing at home or walking along the seashore. People enjoy wearing them after a hard day. They provide comfort, but also protection for the feet. There are many branded companies that manufacture flip-flops. They manufacture flip-flops for men, women and children. They come in attractive designs and durable material.

In modern times, people have realized the importance of protecting the environment. There are organizations that promote the use of biodegradable products to manufacture clothing, shoes and food products. They work towards protecting species of animals that would become extinct due to wanton poaching. It is healthy to wear flip-flops made from environment friendly materials. It gives the person wearing them a sense of responsibility, without compromising the traditional comfort and appeal of flip-flops.
There are hemp flip-flops, made from certified organic hemp. These appeal to people with chemical sensitivities and concerns about cruelty to animals. Plant fiber, from which hemp is obtained, is biodegradable and preferred to leather or synthetics. Since hemp is resistant to mold and bacteria, it does not produce any odor.
